Okay, yesterday I submitted a new story called "History According to Nikki" and someone gave it a 6. Six is one over five and giving something a six should not imply that you love it, or that it's the best story on here. So how come right after it got that review it went to the top of the list? The way it seems to me, people are giving stories they love a six, and everything they don't love to death something way lower. Is it just me, or is that bad? Shouldn't the top stories on here have like a 8.0 or above? I mean, when I love a story, I give it a 10, when I like it, I give it a 7 or 8, and when it's so-so it gets a 5 or 6. Even if I don't like it, it'll atleast get a 2. Are people on here just mean, or have standards gotten that low?

All my stories go through the same thing, but over time they settle in somewhere. If you go to Tornado Lillian and give it a ten, it will go up one point, and if you give it a one, it goes down one point. Once the stories have been around for awhile the points don't make much difference. I think the stories that have been around awhile should be retired into a list maybe called classics or something like that so other stories have a chance to get up into the top twenty-five.

I didn't mean the whole shooting to the top thing, more that all of the stories on their have an average vote below 6. Isn't that messed up? Aren't any stories worth more than that?

Agreed. Currently, 1 point separates 1st place (5.73) from 272nd place (4.73). I'm not really sure much can be done about this though.. people will have their own opinions and work to their own voting systems. Personally, I vote along much the same lines as you. smile/cool.gif

It is a bit strange how even the best story only has 5.73. This suggests either that everyone's opinions vary wildly, or that people are voting low scores to get their own work higher or knock 'unworthy' stories off the top.

On the plus side, I can say my stories are 0.87 points off the top, rather than in 239th place.

Currently the number 1 story has 600 and the last story has 100, that is a huge margin. If your story has been around awhile and is holding around six that is doing good as far as the votes go. If that person would take out that large chapter story it would give a chance for the other stories to rise up. I think it is time for Dylan to remove it. The person has had long enough to move it.

I agree with the original post. if you think of the scoring system as percentages..the best stories are only averaging 55-60%. Don't be scared to use the full range of the scale!

Is there a way to see which reader gave a piece which rating?
