Dyljos, I think some of these stories have way more then 3000 words... and by the way some of these authors have shown their persistence in posting "novels" in chapters, in my opinion the problem will continue. It's just a hand full of authors doing it probrably to promote their own book writting skills, not short stories; or maybe they just want to ruin the idea of Story War. Good luck!

I wasn't aware of this controversy when I started posting my (longer) short story 'Farrington in Foreign Parts'. It's hardly a novel but it is a good eight thousand words or so.

I saw the other multiple chapter stories and took it to be the norm; though thirty chapters does seem a little much.

I'll forego posting any more until a resolution is reached, indeed I can delete them if that's what would be preffered.

Cheers,

Rob.

PS- Nice site though.

Hi, I just logged in after a week to see what happening.  The whole of the first page of the storyboard is full of chapters and the short stories are buried somewhere below!  I thought this was a place for the skill of short story writing was to be honed?  I find the chapters confusing to read as they are dotted around all over the place, to me they fly against what I imagined the initial vision of this website was.  There are plenty of other websites where longer pieces can be posted.  Please don't let this get lost under a few egos, it is a great idea.  The short story is an up and coming art form, a great skill in itself to create a story in 1000 words, with a beginning a middle and an end.  To just break up a larger piece and call it a short story is a total farce.
I think a lot of the genuine short story writers will disappear if this is not addressed soon, very sadly for this is a great idea.  It should not be allowed to be taken over with blanket postings of novels!  I admire Rob (the last contributor to this thread) for being flexible in his approach.  The voice of reason.

Hello All! As you may have noticed from the homepage... I've made some big changes to storywar.. yikes!

There will now be 3 main sections to storywar:

1) Short stories (up to 3000 words)
2) Serialisations/longer pieces (chapters and complete pieces welcome up to 10,000 words)
3) Poems

Hopefully this will allow everyone to submit their desired content and no one will be treading on anyone's toes.

The poem section will be up and running later tonight..

Ok I have read all of the submissions for short stories and chapters and some people are getting quite vicious over it.

I think separating out the short stories and the longer novels is a great compromise, however for those of you who don't like the chapters don't read them.  Just read the short stories.  How hard is that.  It is the equivalent of saying I don't like this particular TV show so I want it taken off the air.  Well other people do enjoy it so why spoil their fun.  Just don't read the chapters if that is not to your taste!

The response will be that this forum is for short stories and not longer novels, but if there are people who are enjoying the chapters why not adjust your thinking and move forward and allow something that is out of the scope of the original plan of just short stories.  Being hateful because the stories are out of the norm is what will stagnate the creative process.  After all if I read this website correctly it is all about ceativity and writing your stories for others who will enjoy them and that is what is being accomplished here whether they are chapters or under 1000 words.

Some people are resistant to change and don't have the tolerance for anything different, will scream that it is unfair instead of taking the stories for what they are or just not reading them if they so choose.

I like the chapters it is kind of like watching your weekly television show with a cliff hanger and waiting until next week to see what happens next.  You don't have to sit down and read the chapters all in succession, but you could if you wanted to, you have that option.

All in all it has created some great controversy and dialogue between parties and it is great for storywar, which will in the end be great for everyone!

The chapter stories have had long enough to move. I vote to erase all of them, so the skill of writing short stories can bloom.
